Short Cuts On Hold

So even with my ancient instincts dulled,
the bugger in the bushes
fancies his chances.
Dressed anonymously
his final wardrobe check
lacked the thorough eye required.
Something of a nervous cat,
the small branches shake and scrape.
Spiritualists and I still suspect
his intentions lack noblesse.
With the calmness of a serial masturbater
he salutes and sets my mind at ease.

Colin James has a couple of chapbooks of poetry published. Dreams Of The Really Annoying from Writing Knights Press, A Thoroughness Not Deprived of Absurdity from Piski's Porch Press, and a book of poems, Resisting Probability, from Sagging Meniscus Press.
